The Community Empowerment Fund offers small loans, savings opportunities, financial services, and assertive support to individuals who are either homeless or at-risk of experiencing homelessness.
Opportunities for employment, self-employment, and greater housing that CEF advances motivate participants to build personal assets, gain higher income, engage in a healthy community, and sustain transitions out of homelessness.

CEF is a student-run non-profit organization
based at the UNC Campus Y in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
CEF works locally to:
- empower individuals through access to capital and financial resources
- create new opportunities for individuals to lift themselves out of poverty
- connect borrowers to supportive services
- foster a healthy and inclusive community of borrowers
- strengthen our community’s local economy
- invest in people and their potential
